How to easily create Gmail Tasks

[audio:ycm-gmailTasks.mp3]
If you’re using Gmail and you need to create a task based on an email you’re reading, click on more actions and then add a task. Gmail will create a task with a link it to the email you’re. If you have keyboard shortcuts on it’s a quick Shift-T.

Get your Gmail/Cal/Docs without a Net connection

Last week Google had a nearly 1 hour outage on Google Docs. Wish I would have had this application then! Though you can’t edit Google docs (yet), you can do your Gmail even you’ve lost your net connection. Let me know what you think of it.

Get free infinite storage for life.

I’m checking out BitCasa, which is a cloud-based file storage company. I used (and loved) Mozy until they went bonkers with their prices. Then I switched to BackBlaze to handle my backups. One of the founders of BitCasa is from Mozy so that got my attention.

BitCasa uses some apparently sophisticated technology to encrypt your data at your computer, before it uploads and then efficiently store your data in the cloud. So efficiently that they can do it for super cheap. I’m hearing prices under $10/mo. For infinite storage.

Right now they are running a brilliant promotion: sign up for the beta program and get your friends to sign up. The more people that you sign up, the better chances you get to win.

So, please use my link here to sign up (so that I get a chance to win!) and then tell your friends (so that YOU get a chance to win!) . If this service is what they claim, I will sign up whether I win or not. Good luck to us all!

From their blog:

For the next 50 days we will select two people per day to get a lifetime of free Bitcasa. Here’s how it works:

  1. In order to qualify, you must refer someone else to sign up (via link or social media)
  2. Once you refer someone, you will be eligible for a daily drawing. We will select two winners of free infinite storage per day
  3. The more people you refer, the higher your chances of winning. For example, if you refer 50 people that sign up for our beta, your name will be entered 50 times

The contest will run from September 12th to October 31.

Good luck and stay posted to our Twitter accounts to see who are the lucky winners.

Google launches Travel Search engine.

Very cool. Very Google in terms of speed, simplicity and power. It just takes a few clicks to instantly get competitive flight information for any round trip in the U.S.

Google Docs is down right now

As of this post (9/7/2011 11:13 GMT-10), Google Docs seems to be “completely” down. I can’t access docs.google.com and from the twitter stream, neither can anyone else. Just wanted to post this right now for all to understand that you’re not the only one down!

Strangely enough, Google’s status page says everything is A-OK. I beg to differ!

Can’t share your Netflix account any more!

I was wondering how long this was going to last…

Some time ago I was surprised to find out that I would stream two different Netflix programs at the same time. My girls could watch an old episode of Glee while I watched a documentary on FDR. No more. Looks like Netflix won’t let you have more than one stream unless you pay. Was fun while it lasted!

Apple faithful losing their faith?

It will be interesting to see if Steve Jobs’ Apple Computer is “Built to Last” or was a reflection of his own incredible greatness (love or hate the guy or the company, his greatness is irrefutable). While we all know things will never be the same at Apple, here’s one piece whose author has already fallen out of the famous Steve Jobs reality distortion field

Steve Jobs’ amazing accomplishment at Apple

Whether you love or hate Apple, you simply can’t deny the incredible accomplishment of Steve Jobs as CEO. Apple was on life support at a $3billion valuation when starting in 2000 Steve became its permanent CEO. Eleven years later, Apple is worth > $350 billion. That’s a nice 100x return on your money, meaning that had you bought $10k in stock in ’99, you’d be worth over a million today.

When Apple acquired NeXT, and Jobs, for $400 million in December, 1996, Apple’s market cap was $3 billion. Today it’s $347 billion, leaving it just $2 billion short of being the most valuable public company in the world, Exxon.

How did Jobs steer the company away from its crash course with the graveyard? By introducing an unrivaled string of hit products.

Your Android phone most likely can do Skype video now. Yippee!

When I first bought my Sprint EVO 4G I naturally assumed the front facing video camera would immediately work with Skype. Oh how wrong I was. Until now. I just tested the new Skype 2.1 and did a quick video call with my daughter. Worked like a charm! Until she “accidently” hung up on me. Oh well, 1 out of 2 ain’t bad 🙂 but seriously, if you’ve got an Android phone and you use Skype, your app has arrived. My only not-happy comment at this time is that Skype seems to run continuously in the background, i.e. there’s no way to complete exit the app. Not sure I like that though I guess if you’re a heavy Skype user that should not be a problem.
