Yippie! Android users finally get the Google Reader app

I’m a heavy Google Reader user; it’s where I get all of my RSS feeds. I’ve been using the web-based version of Google Reader on my Evo 4G and it’s been pretty good. But now I finally can use a native application. Finally!

Kinect enables a new paradigm of user intefaces

The Kinect is a hands-free game controller for the Xbox 360 and is well on its way to a smashing success this holiday season. The hidden story is that the Kinect’s ability to sense human movement is enabling an entirely new human interface paradigm for desktop computers. Only a a few years ago the Tom Cruise was using a special glove to manipulate the screens in “Minority Report”. Today, we can do the same thing…without a glove!. This YouTube video illustrates the first of what is to be a long line of innovations brought about by the Kinect

Time Travel in Space – With Google Sky Maps

Google Sky Maps is my favorite “gee-whiz” app on my Android phone. My youngest daughter is an astronomy buff and we frequently go out in the yard and find constellations with this app. Now it gets better by allowing us to go back in time. Now we can see what our ancestors saw in the night sky. That’s pretty cool.

Today, the new version of Google Sky Map lets you time travel to see the sky at a specific date, past or future. After smooth travel to the desired year, you can fast forward or rewind in various speeds and watch how the sky changes.

While viewing another time period, you can still search for your favorite objects.

Editing your Google Docs on the go

Take a look at this video to see mobile editing in action:

It’s easy to get started: visit docs.google.com in a browser on a supported device, and select the document you want to edit. Then, when you’re viewing it, press the Edit button to switch to the

Google Apps now supports Mobile browser editing

I’ve recently become a big fan of Google Apps and it really kicks in if you have an Android phone. Here’s yet another great feature!

Mobile editing: Log in to your Google Docs on a browser on a supported device, and select the document you want to edit. Then, when you’re viewing it, press the ‘Edit’ button to switch to the mobile editor. If you use an Android device with voice input, you can also use this to add text to your document.

Windows 7 users: Google will not let you down.

Hot on the heels of the Windows 7 launch, Google is right there with their free search application. Simple, smart move. Google doesn’t care as much about the hardware (though of course they love the fact that Androids are everywhere) as they do about the eyeball. Google wants everyone using their products and they will make sure all the phones will run their software

Searching with Google on your Windows Phone 7 device just got easier. The Google Search app for Windows Phone 7 provides quick and convenient access to a rich set of search results, allowing you to search the web, images, local, news, and more.

This initial release of the Google Search app includes several features that help you to search faster – suggestions appear automatically as you type, you can choose to repeat a query from your search history, and your current location is used to provide more relevant results.

Google Instant on a mobile phone near you

I immediately tried this on my phone. It worked perfectly. However despite the fact that I have a huge screen (Evo 4G) there just wasn’t enough desktop real estate to easily browse the search results. Right this moment, I probably won’t use it that much. But I will keep trying it out in an attempt to do useful things.

Google News gets a Mobile Upgrade

I find myself referring to my phone often, not only to check email, but to just “see what’s new”. Now Google News makes this a little easier with their recent upgrade to the user interface. You get easier access to related stories and identification of YouTube content. I like

Google Docs getting really great features

If you’ve been holding off on using Google docs, it’s time to take a closer look. This recent list of upgrades it actually too long to review!
